Types of Pastry Bags
When you start to cake decorate you will have to make a choice as to which pastry bags will best suit your needs... There are three main choices, disposable, featherweight, and parchment paper triangles. You will be the best judge as to what works for you, so experiment with all three and find what will work best for you.
Disposable Pastry Bags
Strong flexible plastic bags that can be used without a coupler. One good thing about these bags is you can throw them away after one use and now worry about the mess. I personally do not recommend using these because I find that it gives you less control when decorating. I only use disposable bags if I am running short on time. One good use for these disposable bags is melting chocolate or candy melts.
Lightweight polyester bags that can be reused. They are dishwasher safe and can be washed, and used over again. I am not a fan of this type of bag because, I find I can never get them clean enough and they can be expensive.
Parchment Paper Triangles
An easy fold and it is a convenient throw away bag which can be used with or without a coupler. This is my favorite type of bag because it gives me the control I need when I am decorating, and they are very inexpensive. You can get these parchment triangles at any craft store or any cake decorating store in your area. Another good use for this type of bag is melting and working with chocolate.
