Easy and Simple Icing Recipes



Always remember that the melting point of butter is very low so if you are making a cake for a child's birthday party in the park in the summertime, make sure that you use a butter/shortening combo frosting. If you use all butter your cake will melt before your eyes.

Simple Icing Recipe

1 cup white vegetable shortening

1 teaspoon icing flavor

2 tablespoon milk or water

1 lb pure cane confectioners sugar (sifted)

1 tabelspoon meringue powder

pinch of salt

Begin by creaming the shortening, add flavoring and water. Add the confectioners sugar and mix on medium speed unitll all ingredients have been trhoughly mixed together and blend unitl creamy.

*For cholcolate add 1/2 cup coca mix well until blended.


Buttercream Frosting

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

3 3/4 cups confectioner’s sugar (sifted)

1/4 cup milk or water

In bowl, beat buttter and vanilla on medium speed for about 30 seconds. Gradually add sugar and beat well. Beat milk and add the any sugar that is left over. contiune to beat until the frosting is smooth and creamy and reaches the desired consistency.

For all frosting if it looks too thick add more milk 1 teaspoon at a time. You can also flavor your butter cream with 1 teaspoon of almod extract, orange extract.

*For cholcolate add 1 tablespoon unsweetend coca powder with butter and mix well.



My Favorate Recipe

1 1/2 cup white vegetable shortening

1/4 teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon meringue powder

2 pound of sifted powdered sugar

1/2 cup milk or water

1 teaspoon vanilla or other flavoring

1. Mix the shortine, salt and meringue powder with mixer to blend for about 30 seconds.

2. Add milk in the bowl than add powdered sugar and blend by hand until sugar is absorbed into the liquid.

3. Put the bowl back on mixer and beat on medium speed for 2-5 minutes until smooth and fluffy.

* If you have a heavy duty mixer like a kitchenaid you will only mix the frosting for about 2 mintures. * You can always put in half butter half shortening if you want to improve the taste of the frosting.
